How do I register for the Lean Transformation Conference?

A limited number of seats are available for attendees who are not part of Washington state government. These typically include people from other state governments, cities, counties, nonprofit partners and others. For information about these, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the cost of admission?
Admission to the conference is free. We only ask that you bring a canned food item, which will be donated to the Emergency Food Network. We will also accept monetary donations on site at the conference in addition to canned food. Learn more about the great work going on at the Emergency Food Network.
How do I register for breakout sessions?
You do not need to let us know in advance which breakout sessions you would like to attend. Breakout sessions seating is all first come, first served at the event.
I can no longer attend. How do I cancel?
If you registered and can no longer attend one or both days, please cancel by notifying us at email@example.com or 360.902.0591. Please include your first and last name, the email address you registered with and event day(s) you wish to cancel.
I work for local government, federal government, or higher education. Can I attend this event?
Yes. We are pleased to host our partners in local government, tribal governments, the federal government, and higher education.
I work outside of government. Can I attend?
It is a training and educational event intended primarily for Washington state employees. We have a limited number of spaces for people from other government organizations and private-sector partners with Lean management learning to share.
Where should I park?
Finding parking near the convention center, located at 1500 Broadway in Tacoma, can be a significant challenge at this popular conference. This year, construction projects in the area have tightened parking availability even more than usual.
We cannot stress this enough: Plan ahead, allow plenty of time to find parking and carpool whenever possible.
Here are some parking options:
1. The closest parking is likely to be these Republic Parking lots, which charge a daily fee. These are first-come, first-served lots and will fill up fast.
• Lot A: 1540 Commerce St., Tacoma
• Lot D: 1670 Court C., Tacoma
• Lot E: Also at 1670 Court C, Tacoma (Lot E spaces are only available after 10 a.m.)
2. There is also parking, for free, at the Tacoma Dome light rail station, at 424 E. 25th St., Tacoma. Light rail service starts at 6:36 a.m. and runs every 12 minutes. With hundreds of people trying to get downtown on this service in the morning, we strongly encourage you to get there early.
3. The convention center staff has created extra parking specifically for this event which makes 300-400 additional spaces available at no cost in Tacoma Dome Lot A. The entrance is located at about 2700 East D Street, Tacoma. It’s about a five-block walk to the Tacoma Dome Station to catch the free light rail service to the conference center.
Please give yourself plenty of time and please be patient. We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
What if I need accessible parking?
Accessible parking is available at the convention center. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to request accessible parking.
Is dining available?
Yes. The Greater Tacoma Convention Center offers limited onsite concession services. The Greater Tacoma Convention Center will have hot and cold options available for purchase mid-day.
Debit and credit cards are accepted. There is also an ATM at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, located on the fifth floor level near the escalators.
In addition, there are many convenient dining options accessible via a short walk from the convention center.
Can I stay overnight?
Please be sure to follow your agency rules and statewide travel regulations when deciding whether to stay overnight. For most state government employees, that means that your home and workstation must both be 50 miles away from the convention center or farther. If you do have approval to stay overnight, you can reserve a room as part of a per diem room block.

How can I volunteer at the Lean Transformation Conference?

Is there a space for nursing mothers?
Yes. There is medical need/nursing mother room near the registration area. Ask any event staff to be directed there. This room has outlets, a sink, and a small refrigerator for expressed milk.
I have a need regarding seating. What are the chairs like?
The chairs used throughout the convention center are all 18.5” wide, cushioned with no arms.
What if I need disability-related accommodations?

Presenters and materials
Are the presenters paid?
No. Conference presenters are part of our Lean Expert Partnership Program and are not compensated. Presenters are giving of their time and talents to support our state’s Lean efforts. We are grateful and humbled by their generosity.
Can you send me the materials in advance?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide written materials in advance of the conference.
When will conference materials be available on your website?
We will post materials and videos quickly as possible. You can expect to see slides posted within a week of the conference. Videos will take a little longer due to the fact that all of our videographers are state employees who are graciously volunteering to videotape the conference in addition to their other duties. Can I donate money instead of canned foods?
Yes. We will collect monetary donations on site at the conference in addition to canned food. Emergency Food Network is able to distribute $12 worth of food for every $1 they receive,
Why did you choose Emergency Food Network (EFN)?
We chose to partner with EFN for two reasons. The first is its broad reach. EFN acts as a distributor serving more than 60 food banks, hot meal sites and shelters. That means that EFN provides more than three quarters of all the food distributed to those in need by food programs in Pierce County. But what really struck us was the EFN’s staff passion for improvement. They have utilized some truly innovative ideas to continually deliver better value to the people they serve. We feel great about partnering with an organization that is demonstrating Lean principles in such an impactful way.
