Why is this a priority?
As annual wages increase, individuals and families are better able to support themselves and their communities. Higher average wages in Washington state are a priority because higher wages lead toreduced poverty, increases purchasing power of workers and reduces expenses for government social programs.
How are we doing?
Green: Average earnings of Washington workersincreased 9.1 percent from 2012 to 2015, going from $51,595 to $56,273.
Analysis (Root Causes)
A combination of forces fueled the increase, including an improving job market, a tightening labor market, low inflation and rising wages. Wage increases were spread across the wage spectrum.
