Why is this a priority?

State learning standards in English, language, arts (ELA), math and science are designed to ensure students achieve the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in subsequent grades and after graduation.

How are we doing?

This measure was recalibrated due to the new performance assessment. The data for 2014-15 is now the baseline for the target increase.

  • 2015 ELA 4th grade = 54.6% met standard
  • 2015 Math 7th grade = 48% met standard
  • Science 8th grade = 60.7% met standard
What are we working on?
  • Implementation of new state learning standards (Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and English Language Development Standards)
  • Focusing Title 1 and Learning Assistance Program efforts on implementation of research-based best practice
  • Providing technical assistance to schools identified as needing to focus on the needs of special populations, most particularly students who receive special education or English language support
How can you help?

Encourage your legislator to fully fund education. Parents can talk with their child’s teacher and school staff about testing expectations and what parents can do to assist their child in earning proficient scores.
