Why is this a priority?
This is a federally-mandated performance indicator as part of the Washington State Performance Plan established in FFY 2005. It is also one of OSPI’s Performance Achievement Measures.
How are we doing?
Four-year trend data (FFY2010 through FFY 2013) indicate the State’s extended graduation rate ranges between 61% and 63%.
What are we working on?
- Technical Assistance –OSPI continues to fund a State Needs Project, the Center for Change in Transition Services (CCTS), in order to provide ongoing training and technical assistance to regional ESDs and local school districts related to secondary transition. CSAs with ESDs include data trend analysis and development of region-specific training plans to address secondary transition.
- Data Analysis and Dissemination – Dissemination of data related to disparities in suspensions and expulsions and the relationship to graduation rates in order to assist school districts in analyzing data at the local level to identify root causes of disparities and guide decision-making.
- Tools –Development of a Graduation Toolkit to assist educators and families in understanding state graduation requirements.
